series of drawings on tracing paper, 50×70 cm
“Disappearing Cities” is a journal, a series of multilayered drawings of my whereabouts in the specific city. Each path I took is carefully marked/mapped and transformed into an abstract drawing.
With these series of drawings I am illustrating both the idea of locating myself in the city (always a five days period), and the idea of forgetting that locations as the time passes. Although I was well aware of my position and movements around the city, after a few days, it becomes unclear where exactly I was on each day, and which exact path I took in order to get there. The memory fades, it becomes uncertain. In order to represent the passing of time and fading memory about my movements, I covered each drawing with layers of tracing paper –one paper per one day gone by– until the drawings are not visible anymore (just as my memories have faded away, and became unclear).
